Nostalgia 03:25
[Verse 1] I'm the red balloon at the carnival That you let go of to see how High you got when you took your first hit Felt so good when it hit your lips Didn't it didn't it? Yeah I'm the night your borrowed your daddy's car So you could look cool when you picked her Up all night with a desk light studying science Dying inside cuz you hated that shit Didn't ya, didn't ya? [Pre-Chorus] Oh,
throw your hands way in the air if you feel me Oh, when the party's over You still talk about me [Chorus] You can find me
in your hometown Burning up the radio You know me Got the scars, posters and Polaroid photos Lift you up And I pull you down Long gone but I'm still around Yeah I know all about ya They call me Nostalgia Na nostalgia na na na nostalgia [Verse 2] I'm that little apartment up in New York You could barely afford you were so Broke his heart when you went off to college Hurt so bad being that honest Didn't it, didn't it? I was your birthday night when he burned the chicken Lookin’ back now it was your Favorite song on the TRL countdown All day Sugar Ray singing it out “I just wanna fly..” [Pre-Chorus] Oh
Throw your hands way in the air if you feel me Oh when the party's over
you still talk about me [Chorus] You can find me
in your hometown Burning up the radio You know me Got the scars, posters and Polaroid photos Lift you up And I pull you down Long gone but I'm still around Yeah I know all about ya They call me Nostalgia Na nostalgia na na na nostalgia Na nostalgia na na na nostalgia [Pre-Chorus] Oh
Throw your hands way in the air if you feel me Oh when the party's over
you still talk about me [Chorus] You can find me
in your hometown Burning up the radio You know me Got the scars, posters and Polaroid photos Lift you up And I pull you down Long gone but I'm still around Yeah I know all about ya They call me Nostalgia Na nostalgia na na na nostalgia Na nostalgia na na na nostalgia

We’ve got 2 for 1 drinks No, no, I’m not busy I can bring you anything No I don’t need to write it down Please, I’ve got this down by now Oh, take your time I know I would take mine [Chorus] But I’m waiting on you Waiting on pay Waiting on tables Waiting all day Waiting on a savior to walk in this place And take me away I’m just a waitress [Verse 2] Wish I was that girl sittin at 31 Sippin’ on beers instead of pouring ‘em Oh, wouldn’t it be nice? To be somebody else tonight [Chorus] Not waiting on you Waiting on pay Waiting on tables Waiting all day Waiting on a savior to walk in this place And take me away I’m just a waitress [Bridge] I’m at your service I hope you enjoy it Come back and see me You know where I’ll be [Down-Chorus] Waiting on you Waiting on pay Waiting on tables all damn day On a savior to walk in this place And take me away... Josie 04:01
[Verse 1] You're reading Jane Austin Getting lost in her ways Of making you lonely and wishing for fate to come knocking on your door Wash up on your shore Only 13, and your imagining What it's like to be married [Verse 2] All of the boys who go to your school You think that they think that you aren't that cool But cool is a liar, I'm calling it's bluff You're pretty and smart and that is enough [Chorus] Josie hold on Hold on to the feeling of feeling so young Someone's gonna come along Tell me you'll hold out for the someone you love Once you've tasted his lips You can't act like You never been kissed [Verse 3] You like when they're nice Cause It's nice to be liked But charm can wear off quick as day becomes night Maybe daddy was right That all boys just want one thing He’ll show you in time If his words just mean nothing [Chorus] So Josie hold on Hold on to the feeling of feeling so young Someone's gonna come along Tell me you'll hold out for the someone you love Once you've tasted his lips You can't act like You never been kissed [Bridge] Save yourself the heartache Don't you know it's worth the wait? Cause no one can fix what he might break [Chorus] Josie hold on Hold on to the feeling of feeling so young Someone's gonna come along Tell me you'll hold out for the someone you love Once you've tasted his lips You can't act like You never been kissed

[Verse 1] I plan on stopping all the talking And knocking on the doors Of boys who I know are bad for me Said I’d quit shopping, dropping Bank on the clothes that make him wanna buy me a drink Said I’d quit leaving my car parked behind the bar But I got towed the second time this week I watch the ball drop on new years eve But drop the ball when it comes to me [Chorus] Gonna get skinny this year And I swear that ill stop cursing Gonna stop drinking this beer Try to keep the lines from blurring Between what I say and what I do When I’m all talk, no followthrough Well you can’t get rich making penny wishes Can’t get to heaven On good intentions [Verse 2] Nobody’s perfect, no But I plan on working On a version half as good as the girl next door Have you heard? I’m gonna save the world I’ll get started when I’m not so poor I been telling myself it’s the thought that counts So let me tell ya what I’m thinking about [Chorus] Gonna get skinny this year And I swear that ill stop cursing Gonna stop drinking this beer Try to keep the lines from blurring Between what I say and what I do When I’m all talk, no followthrough Well you can’t get rich making penny wishes Can’t get to heaven On good intentions [Bridge] All bad, bad, bad decisions Wanna get, get them out of my system Fix, fix, fix my condition Ditch the excuses I been givin’ All bad, bad, bad decisions Wanna get, get them out of my system Fix, fix, fix my condition Instead of just sitting here wishin [Chorus] Gonna get skinny this year And I swear that ill stop cursing Gonna stop drinking this beer Try to keep the lines from blurring Between what I say and what I do When I’m all talk, no followthrough Well you can’t get rich making penny wishes Can’t get to heaven On good intentions

Yours 02:41
[Verse 1] Got no babies to feed No place to be There’s nobody at home Waiting on me Got a bed by a window I don’t need much more But sure would love to be yours [Verse 2] There’s a place down the street Much older than me They call me by name and They know what I need There’s a booth that I sit at every morn I sure would love to be yours [Chorus] Bitter freedom ain’t worth keeping There's something that I’ve been needing That I can’t provide No matter how hard I try [Instrumental] [Chorus] Bitter freedom ain’t worth keeping Something that I’ve been needing That I can’t provide No matter how hard I try [Verse 3] There’s a light in the hall I like to keep on A little trick that I play So I don’t feel alone There’s a side of the bed That I try to ignore I sure would love to be yours I sure would love to be yours

about

From her work waiting tables to her time traveling abroad, to watching her impatient younger family members come of age, Emily Hackett's songwriting draws from a full spectrum of experiences. On her bright new EP, By the Sun, the singer-songwriter uses her very real life to inspire rich storytelling and charismatic melodies, delivered beautifully in the project's five songs.

Hackett shows her diversity as a songwriter and singer with By the Sun (2018), moving from the pop-infused and fun-filled "Nostalgia" to the Celtic-folk-driven "Yours" and the rock 'n' roll gospel of "Good Intentions." One of The Boot's 2018 Artists to Watch, Hackett has been on tour with some of Nashville's biggest names, and fans should expect to see more of her in the future.
